Program Philosophy

  • This program will emphasize instruction in addition to games.
  • Games are played on Sunday afternoons at Thomas Worthington High School or Worthington Kilbourne High School beginning January 6, 2019 through March 3, 2019.

  • Online registration will begin on November 15 and end December 15.
  • A late fee will be charged for registrations after December 15 provided there is still room in the program to add additional participants.
  • Payment is due at the time of registration in order for your child to be placed on a team.
  • Per WYB policy, all recreation teams must be made up of residents of the Worthington Local School District or by someone who attends schools within the Worthington School District.  Exceptions can be considered if space in the program is open.

  • The 2018 - 19 cost per player is $100.

  • A t-shirt will be provided to each player.  Proper attire includes tennis shoes, gym shorts and a reversible Red/White basketball jersey.  (available at Egelhoff Sports in Park Place Center on N. High St. and Lazelle Road)
  • An intermediate (28.5”) sized basketball will be provided to each player.  Each player should bring their basketball to all practices and Sunday sessions.
  • No participation medals will be provided to each player like is done for the Junior Hoopsters program.  Trophies are awarded to the one team that wins the season ending tournament.
  • 4th Grade Girls currently play at the regulation 10 foot high basket. Consideration is being given to offering play at the regulation height, a modified 9 foot high basket, or both basket heights.  A question has been added to the registration to understand the basket height that is preferred as playing at the modified height presents some logistical challenges for both games and practices.

  • All boys will be assigned to a team regardless of skill level.  You will be contacted by your coach before the season begins.  If you have not received a call from a coach by January 4, 2019, please contact the league commissioner.
  • There will be no evaluations. Teams will be developed based on elementary school, neighborhood, and/or future middle school.
  • There will be one practice scheduled during the week at a Worthington elementary school between the hours of 6:00-9:00 pm pending gym availability.
  • Should a shortage of gym availability become an issue, practices may involve sharing a gym with another team or practicing every other week.
  • For 9 weeks beginning on January 6, 2019, you will have games/clinics each Sunday afternoon; the schedule will be presented in a separate handout by your coach.  Times range from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, but typically start about 1:15 pm for 4th grade boys.  Schedules will begin and end at the recorded times.
  • The first Sunday of the season, January 6, 2019, is the first practice where basketballs and t-shirts are distributed.
  • A league tournament may be held the final one or two weeks of the season.
  • Games are officiated by high school students.
  • If any of the 9 sessions is canceled due to inclement weather, there will not be additional weeks added after the final session on March 3, 2019.
  • The typical season has 9 weeks of games, but due to Worthington Spring break starting March 8, 2019, this year the season will only have 8 weeks of games.

Please contact league commissioner David Quart at or program director Bruce Gerber at  with questions.
